IBM launches POWER5-based p5 server line

"A while back, we covered IBM's launch of their POWER5-based i5 server line, and today the company has launched their advanced POWER5-based line in the form of the p5 series. The p5 series goes from 2-way to 16-way, and expands many of the features, especially virtualization. But I'll let you check out the press release for more info. Also, a number of sites (e.g. here and here) are running coverage of the launch, with the obligatory quotes from IBM reps and smack-talking competitors. The big news is in the benchmarks, where the new p5 gives IBM a significant lead over the competition in SPECfp and TPC-C (a transaction processing benchmark) performance."
